Both the VT440 and VT540 accept progressive-scan 480p and 720p, as well as 1080i. I have the VT540 and use it with an HTPC for DVD and (with accessDTV) HDTV viewing, as well as an RCA DTC-100 for DirecTV and an Echostar 6000 for DISH viewing.
The only possible problem that you may have is that progressive signals are only accepted via the DB15 VGA input port on the VT440 and VT540--they don't have BNC or RCA connectors for progressive scan input. If your output source is BNC or RCA connectors, you will need an BNC-to-VGA or RCA-to-VGA cable.
