Ok, I’m stuck!

I’m coming from a PLV-60

Screen is 2:1 53x106 (119â€) Greyhawk with masking for 2.35:1

I zoom off the black bars so my screen size is basically the same as a 119†at full zoom.

I’ve seen the LPX-510, liked everything except the SDE when zoomed out to 119". We sit back 1.5x at 13 1/4 feet. Saw a little VB but not too bad, it’s mainly the SDE that I didn’t like.

The manual lens shift was a little annoying at first but not too bad. The PLV-60 was all powered.

It was bright enough but I wouldn’t want any darker than the LPX-510 in Cinema mode for movie viewing.

The contrast was nice, compared to my PLV-60 but I could see how it could still be better.

Color was great and the fan noise in Cinema mode was ok.

So, there’s the AE700 and HS51… I’m concerned about both being all manual (more PIA factor when switching aspect ratios)

The brightness at 119†and the SDE, as well as the fan noise (big factor for me!)

I've read about the AE700 VB, and I will be ceiling mounting basically even with the top of the screen, is this a problem with the AE700 lens shift and picture quality?

But, they are both a lot less $$ than the LPX-510, always a factor as well.

Any advice would really be appreciated!

Thanks!

You saw SDE on the 510 at 1.5x distance? Yikes. I'm not exactly sure why manual lens shift would be that annoying, you shouldn't have to do it more than once. Manual ZOOM would be very annoying for me now that I have power. I do not believe anyone has done direct comparisons to those models yet, so you'd have to go off the overall reviews of places like cine4home.de and the like. MSRPs are very different, but if you look around there are very good deals to be had. And remember that the Epson 500 is essentially the exact same projector as the 510.

Yeah, 106" width at 13 1/4 feet back is 1.5 x the width. We can definitely see the SDE on the LPX-510 on bright scenes. You know, I think because the contrast is so much better than the PLV-60 we noticed it more now.

I wonder if the HS-51 would be any better, perhaps not from what I've been reading.

The reason we need lens shift is because we use a 2:1 screen, when we zoom all the way out to 106" width we then need to shift the image down a little to line up correctly with the bottom of the screen. This is because we mask from the top down and on the sides. It's worked great for years with the PLV-60 and worked pretty easy with LPX-510. But, I'm not too happy about having to do everything by hand.

The LPX-510 even at street prices is a lot more than the HS51 and AE700, I haven't found an Espon dealer yet for the 500, so I don't know about that.

Thanks for the advice...
