I am new to projectors.

I started reading your forum and decided to buy a projector.

I purchased a Canon LV5100. 750 lumen. I am amazed by the excellent picture it is able to render.

I then read a post to study replacement lamp cost.

I found the life of the lamp for my projector is 1000 hours.

I found a replacement lamp for $450. Yikes. I watch about 4 hrs a night. This means every year I will shell out $600 for lamps. (8 month life = $450 + (412 X $450 = $150.

Am I looking at this right. If so perhaps I am out of my league money wise.

Hi Dan,


You are correct. The bulbs are a major cost of ownership. In fact, some bulbs are even more than the one for your projector. You are lucky (!).


You might see if you can find another cheaper source for the lamp (like http://www.bulbman.com ), but you might just find that they are all equally expensive.


If it really bothers you, some projectors do take less expensive/longer-life bulbs. You will need to change projectors to realize the savings, though.
