Projector lift weight limit?

386 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  gimmepilotwings
I'm upgrading to a LG HU810PW. One problem - I have the below mount (already installed, in use for 9 months, works great) and it is rated up to a 10 kg load. The HU810PW weighs 11 kg :(

The lift works fine with the current projector (BenQ W7000). I tell myself:
"How much of a difference can it really make to go over by 1 kg? It's a really simple mechanical system with a motor, my setup has a short travel distance (12-18"), and it's not used frequently (2-3x per week). The manufacturer probably didn't even test the 10kg limit."
But then I think:
"Why would they list 10kg unless they tested it? If I broke the lift it would be a pain to replace."
So what do you all think? Will going over the weight limit spec by 1kg break the lift? Any other ideas?

I doubt it will come crashing down, most likely eventually you will wear out the motor. Could be one year could be twenty. I'd use it until it fails and then you can bite the bullet and replace with a lift with greater capacity. Going 10 % over rated capacity is not a big deal. Most competent and reputable companies build in a safety margin in their product ratings. No idea if your lift came from such a company.

Let me know how the LG projector is for you. I bought the same one and it will be delivered next week.

I guess if it were me I would put something that weighed 11kg on the lift and work it a few times to see how it behaved. Weight ratings from these overseas manufacturers can be a joke sometimes.

Thanks!

@BIGmouthinDC not a reputable dealer unless you count the fact that I went through Amazon. In fact, possibly the opposite given how hilarious and unusable the "English" instruction manual was.

@gimmepilotwings I'm not ordering until next week, so you'll have to share your experience first! Where did you order it from?

@catinthehat85 I'm embarrassed to say I didn't think of that. Off to find some makeshift weights...
I ordered from Amazon and it should be here next week. I am still in the building phase so I will need quite some time before I will be able to share. You can follow the thread here if you want

I ordered from Amazon through a 3rd party seller it seems.
