It's possible that you may have the output switched to something else - I have a DVD player that can't send all signals through all outputs, so you have to select the one you want. If you get it wrong and don't have other outputs connected, you may not get a picture on the component cables anymore. You then have to switch to the other output to see it. For instance, setting it to s-video might dissable the component outputs, so you now need to connect the s-video output to the pj to see the output to change it back.
Can your pj take both interlaced and progressive inputs? Maybe it's on one that the pj cannot display. Or perhaps you can put out different RGB signals and somehow the wrong signal is being sent and the pj is not deisgned for it.
I'm guessing of course, but you never know, one of them might be right.
