I am looking for any help or exisiting PC software applications for the following project.

I would like to use my computer to replace the wired remote control on my (old Esprit) projector. It is an RS232 serial port on the projector (DB15 connector) that will go to the serial (DB9 connector) on the computer.

I have the projector manual that gives me all the askii character commands that need be sent/received by the computer to duplicate the keys/displayed info on the existing remote. The manual shows the pinouts/cable information on how to physically interconnect to a PC, so that is no problem.

Is there any software available that I could use as a base to customize to my specific projector/remote?

If anyone has any info on how best to do this or what to use as a base for such a project, I would really appreciate learning about it.

Thanks for any help.

You can try Girder. Girder has a serial plugin that should do what you want. Of course the elegant solution would be Dean Roddey's QCQ controller, but there probably wouldn't be much of an incentive for him to write that driver, considering your projector may not be that common.

I wrote a remote control emulator program for use with my AMPRO 2000D using Liberty Basic. It took me about 8 hours to complete. It has a graphical interface and looks kinda like a remote control, but mainly I just didn't want to memorize all the command codes. If you have done any programming at all, this is a very simple language to write in. If you would like a copy of the source or the final program just drop me an email.

Thanks for your inputs. I am looking at both girder and key2serial. This should keep me out of trouble for a while!

Birdman...I would really appreciate a copy of your software...I believe we have the same projector with different brand names! This would be great, being the lazy person that I am.

I sent you a "private message" requesting this but I am not sure how that works yet.

Thanks to all
