As the topic says, I'm looking for the best projector under $1000 that would be good for playing Playstation 2/XBox and watching DVD movies.

I'm in the same boat. Now that I have replaced my PB6100 with an IN76, I am trying to decide if I should buy a new bulb for the 6100 for my game room, or buy a new sub $1000 projector.
The only projector I've heard much about is the X1, but I'm unsure of how well the 800x600 resolution scales for gaming and movies.

For gaming, I'll be playing in fullscreen mode. For movies, I like widescreen. I don't mind black bars so much.

Since I'd like to focus more on fullscreen gaming, I believe I'm more interested in a 4:3 projector.

I'd consider the Sharp XR-10x

Victor
For 900 clams the XR10X with sealed optics is the way to go. There are several good threads talking about it do a search. In my signature box there is a thread with screen shots so you can see what you will be viewing.

Good luck
I've had the x1 and the 4805 to use for this exact purpose and I think that you couldn't ask for a much better choice than the 4805. The deinterlacer does an excellant job with ps2 games and for games that support 480p (some ps2, almost all xbox games) you are getting almost the exact resolution of the projector. I find that the 4805 is a better choice because it does a better job with dark games (on the x1 in some shooting and driving games it could be hard to see in dark areas). Almost all x-box games support WS also. I thought I would like the 4x3 on the X1 a lot better but I find that WS is generally a more immersive experience because it fills more of your vision field. Both are great choices though.
Thanks for the great suggestions. One last question... is it smart to buy a used projector over eBay?
I have a Z3 if anybody is interested. I am willing to let it go for a good price. It has ~730 hrs on it and still seems just as bright as day 1, although if I measured it maybe it would not be, but just viewing it seems the same to my eyes. It has been well taken care of, and used in a smoke free environment. I am upgrading to a Samsung 710 and need to sell it. PM me if you are interested.
I have some BJ component cables as well that I could throw in if you need them.
What's a better pick, the 4805 or the Sharp? Mostly 480i tv / DVD, some PS2 (love the Faroudja on the X1, but mine just got hit with the color wheel/buzz saw thing).

I second that. PS2 480i games look just ok, 480p games look a little better.

All XBOX games are at least 480p and they look really good compared to any of the 480p PS2 games. The XBOX 720p games look extremely awesome on my 4805.

So it's this:

PS2 480i
