hi all...

well, i'm the happy owner of a new 42 pany from paul...

i was hoping that the internal scaler would have made made

TiVO look better, but alas, the picture quality from TiVO to

the plasma (via DISH, s-video, and HIGH quality) isn't very great,

lot's of artifacts.

wanted to know what you are using/recommend? the internal scaler, DVDO, or proton Scaler. i'm looking for a sub-$1K

external scaler... are these my only options?

thanks guys!

I doubt very seriously that any of those inexpensive deinterlacers will help. It is my opinion -- as a Panny owner -- that the internal deinterlacer is great, especially on film-based sources. But there is no question that with overly compressed DBS and Tivo (2x the MPEG encoding, yum), you lose a lot.

Honestly, if you are willing to spend some money, I'd consider swapping Dish for DirecTV w/Tivo. That cuts out an encoding step and -- with the new DirecTV satellite in Jan. -- should result in subscribing to the service with better picture quality for 2002.

I am a Dish fan, don't get me wrong, but my DirecTV with Tivo is the best CE peripheral (non-display) I've ever owned.
