Ps2 dvd player play 16:9 ?

I have the orginal Ps2 and i just bought a hdtv i know on my old tv it played on a 4:3 format, once i hook it up to my new Sammy will i have the option to go to 16:9 formatt? Or do i need a new dvd player???

Yes. You have to go into the PS2 menu and select widescreen output (it works fine on mine, but only newer games in the last 1-2 years are widescreen).

You might have to hit 'Stop' twice on your PS2 DVD remote in order to change core DVD settings (16x9/4:3 and 480i/480p).


If you're going to use a PS2 for DVDs, you should make sure you have a '+' unit (prog scan with built-in IR and latest DVD drivers).


Until I get a 1080p upconvert player, I'm sticking with my PS2.
