hi, projector noob here. i am just wondering how, if possible, i could get my ps2 to use my VGA input on my Optoma 705 DLP projector. The RCA in, is just horrible and can't seem to display colors properly, but the VGA port is stunning. I recently also bought an XGA box that i thought might do the trick, but all it did was make the image worse. I guess my real question here is, is it possible to get the ps2 to use the VGA input on my projector? or is it basically a hit and miss depending on the type of projector? thanks for any replies.

Ok 99.999% of ps2 games are interlaced. Your best bet is to get a component cable and just run 480i to the projector from the dvd ports. If that isnt an option then try svideo (Think the universal xbox/gcube/ps2 cable is like $24).

Ok now for nonstandard options. Take my sanyo z1 for instance. It has a mode for the vga plug for SCART opteration. If your projector has a scart option for it, then you can get a scart cable for your ps2 and run rgb color to your projector. That would be basicly vga. This will require you to solder a scart end for the ps2 and a vga end for the projector, and in some cases even a little cercuit to split the sync on the scart wire (this is almost never required, but scart is composit sync, and if your projector doesnt like composite sync, then spliting it back into horzontal and vertical might help.

Ok final (and priciest) solution. If you have a older/cheap/professional projector that doesnt have component in. Get your component cable for your ps2. Then get a $150 unit called transcoder. audio authority makes a nice one. This duhicky coverts component signals (480i all the way up to 1080i hd) to signals that can go to a vga plug. Its just a box with component inputs on one end and a vga output on the other.
