I am generally very displeased with the ps2's 480i component output. I was thinking of getting a universal component to VGA adapter, and then hooking it up to my Audio Authority VGA to component transcoder, and into the TV. Some may question why I would want to go from component to VGA back to component. The answer is simple. 480p. The TV my ps2 is hooked up to (RCA D52W20) doesn't do a very good job with 480i. It likes 480p a lot better. I may try my ps2 on my Hitachi 57S500 tonight. If it looks ok, maybe I will just leave it on that TV.

My question is ... Has anyone used one of these universal adapters with their PS2, and how well did it work?

Thanks.

Nevermind, it looks great (as great as PS2 can look, I guess) on my Hitachi 57S500.

Any chance you can test it on a Samsung 5063W and see if the game lags at all? I'm thinking about getting a PS2 VGA adapter to see if it solves the lag problem that exists in the TV with interlaced signals.

Most of the time going to a native progressive signal will get rid of the lag that is seen with 480i (on some tv's) .

Right, but you have to get there fast enough. I tried an iScan Pro on my set and the deinterlacing still takes too long. The iScan might wait for a couple frames and also has advanced deinterlacing algorithms. I'm hoping that a cheap and fast deinterlacer will eliminate the lag.

Lots of games don't have a "native" progressive scan signal, so you need to convert, but fast!
