Alot of nice additions this time around. Cant wait. Any dates listed?
All very nice, but how about some upscaling support Sony? It would be cool if the PS3 could upscale DVD's (and do a good job of it) and even better if it could upscale 720p games to 1080i. The fact that they didn't include a scaler chip was bad enough but give us some software to upconvert at least.
Im still waiting for that scaling issue to be resolved.... Im not spending $1k Australian....
Alot of nice upgrades here! When is it due out? I was hoping audio would be able to output simultaneously thru hdmi and optical in this firmware..Any one know if that is possible..or coming?

Just curious, what would be the point?
Does this mean they're jumping from 1.7 to 2.0? Seems kind of fishy to me, considering there's no real source for this.
So I do not always have to turn on the HT..when my daughter wants to play a game..Heck sometimes I don't want to either.
It's on the psu website also..Do not know if it is true though.

Unfortunately there may not ever be any fix through a firware update that suddenly enables scaling in all games. This is something the game devs will have to do for themselves like with VF5 or Ninja Gaiden Sigma. As for 720p games that have already been released, they would have to be patched to enable scaling and it seems doubtful this will ever happen.
Please Fix .ts File Playback And Ac3 5.1 Audio Output!

fix? is the ps3 capable of playing .ts files?

i would like to see other hd formats such as .mkv as well. tho i'm not sure how i would even go about transferring such files to the ps3.

yes, it is capable but not implemented. convert the transport stream to program stream in vlc and it works now, just the length of the video being played back is wrong and 5.1 is played in 2.0.
you know sony should have better updates this this. its almost pathetic i mean they dont have to even think for themselves and just copy microsoft

Would this mean that users can now actually sort the titles they download into whatever order they want?
Still no DTS-MA support. Come on Sony! Help us out here already!

i want upscaling for all the 1080i folks

1080p/24

custom soundtrack

better wireless connections

upscaled ps1&2 games

for some people 720p blu-ray with no skipping or freezing

for us with a 1080p tv upscaling all games to 1080p would be cool not sure if possible

this is just to list a few

i think it's already been said that games upscaling to 1080p is up to the game developers and not the ps3 itself. with that said, i'd like to see the ps3 be able to upscale dvd's. judging by the fact it still hasn't happened yet, i dont think it ever will.

sony should just come out and tell us it can't be done (or it's being worked on) so ppl stop complaining about it.

the one update i'd like to see the most is dts-ma decoding and ability to choose preferred resolution for each source (1080i for blu-ray and 720p for games unless ps3 can stop dropping the res to 480i/p for blu-rays when set to 720p)
