PS3 backward compatibility with saved games?

362 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  JosephShaw
Can anyone answer this question:

How will you load PS1/PS2 saved games when playing PS1/PS2 games on the PS3?

None of the PS3 specs I have seen mention PS1/PS2 memory card ports. Maybe they will provide a way to transfer PS1/PS2 saves to the PS3 hard drive? If they don't offer this feature, then backwards compatibility is pointless.

Please NO PS3 price discussion or comments as to whether backwards compatibility is an important feature.

Maybe a USB attachment.

There are ways to get Mem card saves over to a PC, then you could get them to the PS3 via network.
good question. You can't use ps1 memory cards in a ps2, and I haven't seen anything on whether the ps3 (either model) will even use these same memory cards. With the ps1/ps2 we had to use action replay or shark/xport to move saves to the pc, but those probably won't work on the ps3. Since the saves on our pc would be in proprietary formats (ar/xport), we'd need a utility to convert them to a format that the ps3 could recognize, that could be saved to a memory stick and placed on the ps3. Hopefully some company will be working on this

Yes you can, just not for Ps2 games.

NorthJersey,

Yes, I found the codejunkies page on google, but didn't find an official shark/xport page.

The Datel products allow you to transfer your saves from Xbox360 to the PC and back to the Xbox360. How does this solve the problem of transferring from an older system to a new system (PS2 -> PS3, Xbox -> Xbox360)?

Those things do not work. I threw mine away in frustration.
