PS3 DVD de-interlacing fixed

Can anyone confirm this? There are reports that de-interlacing has been fixed as well. This is what I read in one PS3 forum "They fixed the 3:2 deinterlacing! Gets the same score as Nvidia Purevideo for the HQV 3:2 film detection race car test."

I have just completed the HQV tests on the PS3 on firmware 1.8. The good news is that the PS3 now passes ALL the tests on the DVD, cadence, interlacing, artifacting. The output is clearly superior over my Denon 3930CI DVD player. The PS3 extracts more detail from standard DVDs over anything else I have seen. There are other options, such as 1080P 24Hz, white enhancing. The unit will out 1080P24Hz and lock in on the Mits HC500 and JVC RS1 with no problems. i have not tested the white enhancing yet but I assume it fixed the crushed gray scale issues.

Thanks. So seems they fixed pretty much everything there was to fix in movie playback. Now it really looks like a lot of value for the money!
I had trouble picking a favorite between the PS3 and my iScan (strictly 480p on both).

If anything, I thought maybe the PS3 was a hair smoother (or perhaps softer) looking, but detail was really good. Perhaps it's actually a cleaner image since I have a shorter chain from the PS3 to the TV than with the DVD player.

Great detail, even in dark images and the picture sure seemed rock solid. I was really looking for jaggies and the like, but didn't detect them with the two discs I spun.

Didn't try any widescreen TV shows to see how it will handle edits and switches from film to video mode though. If it's faster at recognizing changes than the iScan I might be using the PS3 a lot more for DVD. Wish I could pillar box 4:3 with it in 480p though. I understand it does it automatically when upscaling it.
