There is also a Open Box 500 GB Samsung drives there for ~$65. I have used 2 Samsung Spinpoint drives (160, and eventually a 320) without any issues at all. Great drives.

What about 7200 RPM?

7200RPM runs hotter and isn't going to make much difference for a PS3. It should work, but judging by reviews applying 7200rpm drives to the PS3, they are not as reliable.

The fat seems to be heat sensitive once it's a few years old and covered in dust, so I wouldn't recommend it.

No word on slim failures, so it's probably safer, but do what you want.

the standard notebook form factor already supports 2 platters.

The 500GB 2.5" drives are all 2 platter.

Sony and MS won't touch a drive size until it can be made with 1 platter which costs a good bit less to make.

That description came from Ben's Bargains, I'm just trying to help people save some cash if they're thinking about upgrading their HDD size.

Do these HDD work in the new slim the older 80 Gig PS3's or both? And if i purchase one of them does the install require more than simply taking the old one out and putting the new one in?

Thanks

Are you saying had as in past tense and they no longer have it? What do you mean by the ability to upgrad hard drives removed? I dont understand what you are saying. I have both an 80 Gig PS3 and the a new slim PS3 and i just want to know before i buy one of these harddrives how to install it and is there more to the install than just slipping it in the socket.

Thanks

Google it. Plenty of websites and videos out there that show how to do it, yes on the Slim as well.

Just don't use the wrong piers and strip your nails.
