It seems that ever since the 1.7 update, my PS3, locks up on all videos, but not on Blu-Ray playback. Blu-ray discs play back perfectly from start to finish, but any other videos I downlaod from the PS3 store, lock up after a few seconds. The sound keeps going afterwards for a bit but the picture freezes. It won't let me get back to the user interface, but if I hold down the PS button , it lets me shut down the console. It's been sitting in the same spot since I got it about 4 months ago, and has just started doing this after the 1.7 update, so I'm thinking it can't be an overheating issue. Any ideas?

Thats what I thought, so I trasnferred some of the same videos onto my external USB harddrive, connected through one of the front USB ports, and they still do the same. Downloaded some new videos from the playstation Store , directly to the external USB drive, and still the same lockups. So I'm thinking it has to be either software(firmware) related or CPU related somehow. What puzzles me is that if it was CPU related, you would think tha Blu-Ray discs would be affected as well. I bought the PS3 mainly for blur-ray playback so it isn't a huge deal, but its still annoying!

Have you tried doing a full system restore yet? I've heard of this fixing various issues before. I think it completely formats the harddrive though so be sure to make backups of anything important.

my problem is totally different...... ever since I updated to 1.7 my web browser locks up when ever I open alot of windows.....and I have to turn it off by holding down the power button..... I have never had this problem with the web browser before.....
