PS3 Upscaling

I've been trying to find this online, but I can't find anything that isn't over a year old talking about the lack of upscaling in PS3, which has as we all know been rectified via firmware update. Since I use a projector as my HDTV, I don't have the HDMI inputs in the back and have to use component cables. Does the PS3 still upscale with components?

The answer should be no since it would violate DHCP (in the US at least upscaling is only allowed via HDMI). But I have not tried it. If the video/material is not copy-protected it could (DVD commercial movies are protected usually).
HAHA, that's ridiculous. It's illegal to make an upscaling machine using component cables? Wow.
The PS3 will not scale copy-protected DVDs (i.e. virtually all commercially available DVDs) via component.

However, it will upscale DVD-R and DVD+R homemade or backup discs. Caveat, only if the booktype of DVD+R is not set to DVD-ROM.
i have a ps3 and a toshiba hd-A30. the upscaling on the A30 is a notch above that of the ps3.

I just got my PS3 a week ago and have to compare the upscaling to my Toshiba HD-A1. I've been very happy with the upscaling done by the A1 but if the PS3 matches it, I may start to use that for SD DVDs since it doesn't take 1.5 minutes to boot.

umm???.....ok congrats, I dont think that answered his question

EIad; does your projector have a DVI port?

the ps3 will upconvert using a HDMI to DVI cable (if your pj has DVI of course)
On a related note... anyone with any insights as to when 480i/p content on BDs will be upscaled too? Because currently (i.e. v. 2.1) the PS3 does not do this. It's quite annoying for many bonus features on BDs to not look as good on the PS3 as on their S-DVD counterparts.
Yup, good old DRM bites us in the ass again. To recap:

Upscaling DVDs max resolution:

via HDMI/HDCP is 1080p

via Component is 480p

On a side note about BD's max resolution:

via HDMI/HDCP is 1080p

via Component is 1080i

Yet if a PS3 game is 1080p, you get 1080p via component or HDMI.

So you can tell that this is a legal restriction, not a technological one.

Nah, only VGA, Component, SVid, and Composite. Oh well, I have a 360 as well and the VGA adapter for it. That works for upscaling. I watched Transformers on it last night, and I'm actually now wondering how much an improvement BD/HDDVD are over upconverted SDDVDs. They definately look better, but in all honesty, not by that much.
