My TV store sold me a 4K HDMI cable to connect my 4K TV to my receiver. The installers informed me it's not needed unless I plan to connect video devices to the receiver - but suggested it would be an upgrade to the HDMI cable for the PS4 that came with it. Is there anything not optimal about the HDMI cable that comes with the PS4 why I would want to replace it with this '4K' HDMI cable?

Certified HDMI cables are either High Speed or Premium High Speed as defined by HDMI.org - https://www.hdmi.org/consumer/finding_right_cable.aspx

Unless you see some very obvious problems with your existing cables there is no need to change any cables.

4K UHD becomes a problem with HDMI when you need to go long (26’+) or are running the full capabilities of some Source devices.

Most likely you should return the ‘4K’ cable for a refund.
