PSA MTM-210c paired with JBL Studio 590's

Good idea? Bad idea? Ok idea ;) ?

I am looking for a substantial center channel to pair up with my JBL Studio 590s. I want to stay with the compression horn so I was drawn to the PSA.

L/C/R will each be powered by an Outlaw mono 2200.

Any better options under $1000?

Should work well but I'd call them to make sure Tom at PSA says it would work. Great guy and will give you the real scoop.

Sensitivity is higher for the PSA at 98db whereas the 590's are 92db. Might have to adjust things on your receiver.

I think it's a great idea!In a perfect world it would be best to have a matching center stage(actually all matching speakers).I'm in the camp that believes it's not necessary to have a matching center.I want the best center channel I can fit and afford since that where most of the dialog and a lot of sound effects come from.
If the PSA if your top choice then it should be fine, but I'd personally decide more on general voicing rather than tweeter type itself. Even though the tweeter types are very different my Studio 530s blend perfectly with my Emotiva C2, which has a folded paper tweeter, due to the similar voicing.

Probably not. Hell, you could probably just do a single 110 as your center and be perfectly fine, it might decrease the sensitivity disparity with the JBLs a little...I would ask Tom V about that too.
You want your LCR to match as close as possible. If it was surrounds or atmos ya sure go for it but LCR always stick with matching speakers. Just get more PSA or JBL whichever one you like more then sell the rest.
I think the PSA would work great with the JBL 590's. JBL's "matching" center for the 590's is garbage imo.....you have fairly sensitive dual 8" driver towers...their center has dual 4" drivers....its such a horrible mismatch in capability, I don't know what JBL was thinking. I know one other option that would work great as well. :D

If I were going to buy any retail or ID speaker to match with what you have, those are the two options I'd choose between. Nothing else comes remotely close without spending much more for JTR, so as for your question, no, nothing in the same league for under $1000 outside of DIY.

How do you like the JBL towers?
For $500 or so each, I'd say they are hard to beat. Admittedly I don't have any experience with higher end towers beyond the 590s.

They play loud and clean and don't take a ton of power to get there.

I do wish JBL made a center channel more robust than the 520c. I'm currently using a spare 530 as a center.

I do relish the idea of a 210c and matching 210t's eventually.

Just to throw another hat in the ring... How about the Ascend Acoustic Horizon center with the RAAL upgrade?

I think I saw a psa 110 orientated for center channel in the classifieds
