Hello everyone,

I was wondering if there was any way to get input-specific switching on the Panasonic PT-50LC13. In other words, to switch to a specific input (and not just cycle through each attached input manually).

I have a Sony RM-VL1000 programmable remote, and so I can script the sending of signals to multiple equipment pieces...but, in order to script the switch from, say, Component 1 to Video 1, I need to script multiple "input select/tv video" button pushes, then pause (since the picture viewer input takes half a second to startup, preventing any switching briefly), then a few more "input select" pushes to get to Video1.

I used to use a Sony TV and Receiver....they integrated surprisingly well. You could press the "Video 1" button on the Receiver remote, and it would:
  • Turn on the Receiver (if it wasn't on)
  • Turn on the TV (if it wasn't on)
  • Switch the Receiver to Video 1
  • Switch the TV to which ever input you specified

Now, after experimenting with the PT-50LC13 and a Panasonic SA-XR45S Receiver (very nice, small, good-looking, great sounding, digital inputs, etc.)...I would guess that Panasonic might not have discrete signals to send to the TV to select a specific input. Furthermore, it seems that the power signal to Panasonic equipment is the same for off and on (or, perhaps, Sony has three signals, one for On, one for Off, and one for Toggle(On->Off or Off->On). And so, it might be there really isn't a way to do this with the Panasonic TV....but I thought I'd check here just in case....

It is a shame to have all these inputs, but no efficient switching mechanism....

I find I'm constantly switching from component1 for HD viewing to video1 for SD. Seeing you can only go forward from component1, this is very cumbersome. You can use the 'r-type' button to toggle back and forth between the last 2 inputs. In other words, if your watching HD on component1 and switch to SD, one touch of the 'r-type' button gets you there. Another shortcut to get around the picture viewer is to channel up on the Panny remote which takes you to the beginning of the input cycle. Then you only need go 1 click further to video1.

I know these don't solve your remote programming question, but may make life a little easier.

Here's how you create a "discrete input" on a panasonic TV. If you are looking to set up a macro it does not have a true macro that you can go right to unfortunately. So what you do is have the TV change to CH3 and then cycle to the correct input. This way it always will come up to the right spot. Hope this helps

I have the PT-50LCX63.

In this set you can label the inputs (DVD- CABLE- ANTENNA- HDMI-SKIP), by labeling the inputs that you are not using with the SKIP option will turn off those unwanted.

Hope it helps.

The video and component inputs should automatically "turn off" and not be in the switch cycle if there are no cables connected to them. There is no way I know of to turn off the RGB and card reader inputs, or the internal tuner for that matter.

Can you label the inputs on the PT50LC13? I have not found a way to do this, is this only available on the LCX63?

Hi Marcus,

I happen to be quite experienced at the task of programming the remote for the Panasonic TV. I own 3 Pronto remotes and 2 Panasonic HDTVs and I share your pain. For those of you who haven't used the Pronto, it is by far the best remote for the money IMHO. My finance was calling me every day at work with questions about our setup until I automated my setups with the Pronto.

For video mode, I have been using the channel up method + video commands to the desired input, but I am still looking for a better method. I have a very complicated setup so I have to switch video modes all the time.

I don't know anything about the Sony remote so I don't know if you can input the hex code for IR, but the following are supposed to work.

I am still messing around with it to get it to work for me.
