Was wondering if anyone could tell me if the PT47WX53 165 Digital Convergence is accessible through the user menu; or do I have to enter the Service menu......

Im thinking of picking this TV up.

I have a Panny PT53WXD63, one of last year's models, and there is only the 9-point manual convergence adjustment in the user's menu. Have not attempted the service menu adjustments yet. Working up my courage.

I think the newer Pannys have auto-convergence, but do not know if this applies to the 9-point or 165-point adjustments. You could check if Panasonic has the user's manual on-line, and read about the suto-convergence feature.

Based on your model number, which is probably an older model, it probably has the 9-point manual adjustment in the user's menu.

In case you are interested, Compusa is having a clearance sale this week on certain Hitachi 51" and 53" RPTVs for ~1/2 off the $2000 MSRP. May not be many left (some open stock, floor models, new, etc.). Hitachis seem to have a better rep. than the Pannys. But I love my Panny regardless.

erios,

At this point, I would not buy any 53 series TV (2003).

The 54 models (2004) are significantly improved with new optics. In the 47" size, look for sales on the PT-47X54 and PT-47XD64. In the 53" size, look at the PT-53X54, PT-53TW54, PT-53TWD64. Some people have found the PT-47X54 for about $1100 on sale.

I know I've seen instructions on how to access the service menu in several posts, but I can't seem to find them. Check out this site: panny.tv (sorry, I can't create a link). See the "tweaks" tab. If you look into other AV sites, there will be posts on how to do the service adjustments.

But be careful. There is a good reason why ISF technicians charge >$400 to do the adjustments properly. Most important advice I've read is to record all the initial settings, in case you screw up the settings. I've seen several posts of people doing exactly that. There is no "reboot" button on a RPTV.

Also, probably a good idea to buy the service manual from Panasonic. I think its under ~$15. Cheap insurance for peace of mind.

Also, is the price for new or used? What condition is the RPTV in? Any burn-in on the screen?? It may be a good price, but buyer beware.

Good luck.
