For all of those that made big purchases like i did 2 yr ago when i purchased the Pioneer 5020 for 3,000 we thought we had a tv that could probably stand its own for 5 years and now 3d technology coming out.. I do love the 3d look but do you know how many tv owners r going to hate life.... Why cant they just do a software update on tvs to upgrade to 3d...

Not many. And your tv can hold up for another few years. 3D doesn't make your TV obsolete.

Eddy, the VT series US prices will probably be around $1700-2200 or so. You could probably get $1000-1200 (possibly as high as $1500 if you find someone desperate for a Kuro) so it wouldn't be a huge expense to upgrade... if you had a mind to.

Bear in mind TV prices are dropping so if you wait a year, you might be able to get a 2010 or 2011 3-D Kurosonic for $1200-1400 new.
Im not concerned.... and Im not going to run out and spend 3,000 for another set...when we don't yet know how much media will be supported....and a new Blu Ray player ???...PASS

Every movie that comes out will not be 3-D ...and majority will probably be Pixar , Disney movies to start with (possibly).

And I don't feel like wearing 3-D glasses all the time...I came out of Avatar

with my eyes spinning.... maybe in a few yrs if it takes off this time . They tried this before and it flopped.

I will not become a victom at this time...just my humble opinion.

Wait until there's something to watch.

If nothing else, I'm confident that some enterprising Pioneer geeksters will develop some kind of HTPC 1080p workaround that makes 3-D a reality on their sets. (Along with an oath to secrecy.)
I can't see buying a 3D TV in anything short of 5 yrs. I NEVER buy the newest tech when it first comes out... it's too damn expensive and usually it has bugs to be worked out.

It will take at least 5 yrs to work out bugs, lower cost, make media availible and so on. If I were in the market for a TV it might be a consideration, but I sure as heck won't just run out and get one for no other reason.
Enjoy your Pioneer. For God's sake, like 1% of movies are going to be 3D and as someone mentioned; the only big ones are going to be Disney/Pixar and the occasional huge CG movie like Avatar, etc... 3D is just never going to be that important. People aren't going to sit around all wearing 3D glasses for all their viewing. LOL! Enjoy your awesome TV and don't even think about 3D.
you fell upset about it, then don't buy a new tv....is this type of thread for real? WHat are you looking for here?? Either sell yours and get a 3d or keep yours. Does everyone HAVE to get the latest technology right away?? Good lord!
I would probably get tired of seeing everything in 3d anyway. Just wait til you see an increase of people needing eye-glasses. LOL!
I welcome anyone who buys a new TV every year to buy a 3d set, and I will be glad to read about how the set performs, etc. As for myself, I would not trust the first generation of 3d sets, and probably not the second. If it catches on, and if there is enough to watch, I would seriously consider a third generation set. At the moment, I can think of three movies I would love to see in 3d: Avatar, Up and Coraline. I am certain that some science programs would be interesting in 3d--but only some. As much as I loved Avatar, I am not buying a 3d set just for one--or even three-movies. You should just relax and enjoy the fact that your pioneer is still one of the greatest TVs ever made.
well espn wil have 3d programming, world cup, maybe march madness and so for.. so 3d programming will be there... cant wait for 3d football

Yes, that is true, but at least at first it will not be close to 24 hour programming; most of the time it will not even be on. I admit that occasionally it would be great to watch some of the programming. However, I suspect that any 3d set you buy this year would probably prove to be inferior to your current set on normal hd viewing.
if I wasn't in the market for a new TV already (screen on my JVC RP is coming apart) I wouldn't even consider buying a 3d set and to be honest if that is the only difference between the cheaper model below it I think I will buy a non3d set. I doubt first gen 3d is going to be anything you need to worry about. It will be totally obsolete by the time there is any real content out there.

If you always wANt the newest and latest technology then expect to upgrade every year or at least every two years but the TV you have now is still an excellent TV and 3D is in such an infant stage I would hardly even consider it right now unless I really needed a new TV.

Really?

First gen. HDTVs were not 'totally obsolete' when 'real content' was available; which subjectively has been several years. In fact, such HDTVs are still not obsolete, and could still give some current HDTVs a run for their money.
The only thing you should be upgrading from the 5020 is maybe a 65" Panasonic or a 60" Elite. I would wait on the 3D.
I think 3D will turn out to be more gimmick than must have.
