Yesterday evening and again today, I have turned on the TV and have seen rows of evenly spaced purple pixels on the TV screen. I first thought it was the program that I watching. I turned the TV off and back on again and everything was fine.

This evening, I turn the TV on and again see purple pixels on the screen and I am also seeing pixels in the form of an outline in the upper left corner of the screen. My TV (Samsung LN-T4661F) will briefly show the current input in the upper left corner of the screen when the TV is turned on. This input display was showing in pixels in the corner of the screen.

So, since this has happend twice now, I am wondering what is going on with the TV. Is this something that can be fixed?

are you using a cable or sat box with HDMI? A poor HDMI cable can cause blue or purple sparkles. If you are seeing purple blocks it is the formatter board in the display.

The cable box is connected with HDMI. I also have an HDMI cable for the blu-ray player. Both HDMI cables came from Blue Jeans cable, yet only the TV has a problem.

The TV was purchased from Circuit City and I got the extended warranty plan with it. Actually, the first TV I got (same model) had an issue with stuck pixels that developed about a week after I got it, so it had to be replaced. Now the replacement TV seems to have developed a problem.

I'm sure that the next time I turn the TV on, the purple pixels will be back. I'll try to get a picture of it to post here.

I turned just the TV on this morning after it had been off overnight, and I again saw the whole screen filled with purple pixels. Just as before, I turned it off and turned it back on and it cleared up.

I don't understand why all the sudden this is happening everytime I turn the TV on. It isn't exactly going to be easy to simply add an additional cable with the TV being on the wall.

When the purple comes, are all inputs affected? Are the Tv menus & osd affected?

Need to check for bad capacitors on the power supply. Also re-seat lvds cable. If no fix then replace main board $150 encompassparts.com login as guest search model. If no fix then replace panel $650

I had a service tech come out and take a look at the TV. As soon as it was taken off the wall and the back panel was removed, the source of the problem was determined.

Apparently five capacitors had popped which resulted in the purple pixels that appeared from a cold start. Given that there were five capacitors that popped, I am wondering if there is perhaps a problem with the heat sink?

Caps going bad is a well known problem with computer mainboards who use droves of them for the (CPU) voltage regulators. Heat is probably one of the factors that shortens the lifespan of them - although most of the are rated high enough to endure that.

In the years 2002-2004 it was so bad that certain models were called "time bombs" - even from noted motherboard makers like Asus and Gigabyte.

Nowadays most quality mainboard use solid capacitors that are a bit more expensive but can't explode. They are also flat which surely is the reason TVs will use them more likely in the future as that helps to bring the panel thickness down.
