Apologies if this has been Q&A'ed already, but my searches didn't yield any results. My RTV 5040 that I upgraded with a 120GB disk failed and I need to restore the backup image that I have a copy of to a new 160GB HDD. I've got RTVPatch_2.4.exe and this is my image --> 06.17.03replaytv-backup.rtv (file size 517,121KB)

I won't even go into how I am about to cry over all the saved shows I've forever lost (note to self: ARCHIVE!!!!).

So, is it possible to do this or am I SOL with this unit?

Thanks!

EDIT: Upon further searching I found the answer I needed at

www DOT replaytvupgrade DOT com (I can't post links to other sites yet)

The RTVPatch documentation covers copying from an existing ReplayTV drive. To use a downloaded image, hook the drive up to your computer, launch RTVPatch, Set Target Drive, and then from the lower right in RTVPatch, choose Restore Target Drive. A box will open that will allow you to browse to the downloaded image.

But here's another question (w/o starting a new thread) -- can I hook up the possibly failed HDD to my PC and recover the shows?

Not sure if it still works, but check out the FAQ for a program called "Extract_RTV"

Here is the official website (I think?) for it. Looks like it supports the 4000 and previous models. Not sure if it was ever modified for the 5000.

Here's another question - I'd rather not start a new thread. I have a 50xx series RTV. I put the 160GB HDD in my PC, it shows up in RTV Patch v. 2.4 as a normal (Non PC) drive.

When I click on "Restore Target Drive" and select the image I had originally made of my 50xx RTV, it shows up under status as "RTV4000 Disk"

This seems very strange to me.

Another test I tried was to download a 50xx image file from the ftp site kdhnews (dot) com. After trying to restore this image and patching it, I get the same result -- it shows up under status as "RTV4000 Disk"

If I put the HDD nto the RTV and power it up, all I can see is 8 minutes of available of recording time.

What gives?

From www.replaytvupgrade.com : "(The RTVPatch program will report a 5000/5500 series drive to be a ReplayTV 4000 series drive. This is normal behavior)"

If RTVPatch sees the drive as the correct size, having an incorrect amount of recording time means you didn't run the "Patch Target Drive" step. If you think you did run the patch step, run it again.
