The HD tivo has got me really excited, but I can't get my HD locals OTA where I live.

I was thinking about this: is there any relatively inexpensive way to demodulate the unencrypted QAM 256 channels and modulate them as 8VSB and feed them to the HD Tivo?

I'm sure this is possible with professional equipment, but I have no idea what order of magnitude the cost would be....

there's already a post regarding this and there is no consumer level product to do what you want, you'd have to go to professional level/price in order to find a product that could do this.

My cable box demodulates QAM-256 and I rent it for $3 a month.

I was looking for the same thing and saw www.teleview.co.kr has PCI cards that appear to do this. No idea what they cost or if it would even work. I wanted to use it to record cable, but with the HD PVR's so close, I'm planning on just waiting for a SA-8000HD.
