From the summary it appears that the only current QAM STB's are the LG LST-4200A and the Samsung SIR-T451. Of those the LG is barely available, but the Samsung is every where.

My application is strictly QAM on Comcast. Is there much difference between the two boxes in that context? Are there any competitors I've missed?

SIR-T451 does not tune NTSC and its QAM tuner can only tune to a limited frequency range. Only half of the HD broadcast statations on my cable can be tuned by 451 becasue of the frequency limitation.

km,

The LG LST-3510A found at Best Buy can also tune QAM signals. It is currently on Clearance(at least at my BB) for $289+tax.

It is BOTH a HDTV Tuner and an upscaling 1080i DVD player.

... and the 3510A suffers from the same problem as the T451.

Only QAM or 8VSB (OTA), no analog (NTSC).

Depends on your local cable plant. My local Cox is running 850MHz plant. And When I tried 451 with QAM, it won't tune past channel 125. Most of my HD statations are in channel 130 and up.

QAM tuners that are not provided by the cable provider do not "map" to the same channels as the STB's that they support.

These are the IRC/ICC/Incremental frequencies if I'm remembering right.

Correct. SIR-T451 won't tune any QAM channels above channel 125, i.e. roughly over 800 MHz.

Ratman, I know that and I'm not talking about Cable provider listed channels which in my case are all > 700.
