QS button on remote not responding well

113 Views 8 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Wayno
Hi.

I will come out of my lurking state to ask a question.

The quickskip button on my showstopper remote seems to not be responding as well as it used to. I have had the unit for about 6 months and the QS button has worked fine until recently.

Now the red light doesn't flash unless I press the button harder than I have to press the others. (likely due to heavy use) This is becoming increasingly annoying.

It seems panasonic only warranties these units for 90 days.

Should I buy another remote from panasonic or replay for ~$40.

Should I could buy a universal (i.e. RCA RCU810) for ~$50.

I found some old posts where people had stated they had extra remotes. Anyone want to get rid of one for $20?

Is there any warranty support through replay or is panasonic my only support route?

Let me be the first to welcome you, Dan!

I feel safe in advising that this would be a Panasonic issue, and not a RTV issue.

If it's out of warranty already (is it?), try popping open the case of the remote and looking for the mechanical contacts.

Or look into getting a Philips Pronto. I love mine, and it will clean up all the remotes on your coffeetable into one. Does anyone remember the URL?

The IR button on my original-style remote is not working too well anymore. These buttons probably get a lot more use than most buttons on remotes.

On the Robman's website http://www.hifi-remote.com he has a third-party manual for the ReplayTV remote that has a section on rejuvenating worn out button contacts:

Thanks Glen,

I was just about to say the very same thing myself. Check out the "worn out buttons" part of the manual on my site, this is one of those "so simple it's brilliant" fixes! I have tested the fix myself on one of my old Radio Shack remotes (my wife had worn out the VOLUME DOWN button!) http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks guys....I'll give it a try.
I'm hoping this tip for fixing the worn out buttons on the Replay remote will also work with another remote I have for my JVC VCR. That remote stopped working reliably a long time ago. I found an RCA 4 device remote that will allow me to operate and even program the VCR, but it would be nice to get the original remote working again.

It will definitely come in handy on the Replay remote. My SELECT button is becoming pretty finicky!
