Can anyone tell me whether a DLP projector is compatible with a line quadupler, as opposed to a scalar? The native rate for most DLP units is 720p, and the quadrupler outputs 960p. Does that mean that DLP unit is not compatible with the 960p signal?

The DLP would have to down-convert the 960p image to 720p, frequently resulting in artifact.

If you have a tripler, then it would output 720p, although it still might not provide the proper horizontal resolution, it will have to be scaled up by the DLP.
