Quadscan and Avia-DVD, problems...

358 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  HenrikM
I'm trying to calibrate my NEC PG9xtra with the Avia calibration DVD. But when I try to do the brightness-setup, I can't see the two black moving bars on the left side. I run my signal through a Quadscan Pro (v.2.55). If i connect the DVD-player without the Quadscan I see the bars, but not when using the scaler.

I use linetripling (TRPLTV)

You need to upgrade your firmware to 2.56 to see 0 IRE on S-Video and Composite inputs. Which input are you using? You will need to contact tech support for a firmware upgrade.
When I contacted FE tech support for this exact problem I was told that it requires a mod to the circuit board, not just a firmware upgrade. I had to send it back to FE for the upgrade. The total turnaround time, including shipping, was about a month.

Well, I thought that might be the problem. But the strange thing is that I'm using the Component input on my Quadscan, is it the same on that input?...

Is this problem fixed in the Quadscan Elite?

I definately know that vs 3.06 and higher of the Elite passes blacker than black on all inputs. I will try to find out the details on the QS Pro. It has been a long time since the Pro so I don't know off of the top of my head. I could swear that the component input could accept 0 IRE on Vs. 2.50 and higher, and all inputs in vs 2.56 but I will check this out with my Pro at home and let you know.
One more thing, I think we had different versions for PAL, NTSC, and NTSC J (Japan).
Hi Kris

I had same problem you had with my QuadScan PRO and AVIA, I could not see the moving bars. I got a new PROM from FE with version 2.86, that solved the problems with 0 IRE.
