I have an Onkyo system from about 2005...5.1. It's been ok, but I was never quite sure about the speaker quality, but then again I didn't have anything to compare it to. Are the factory speakers that come with Onkyo decent? If anything I was thinking about getting a better center channel speaker given the % of use it gets. Any thoughts or opinions? Thank you!

Onk's are "decent" entry level speakers, but there are far more capable units out there.

I would not suggest just changing the center channel (and yes, it does carry a very high proportion of the movie soundtrack). The "front 3" speakers should timbre match, and be same manufacturer and same speaker series, to create the most realistic front soundstage.

Consider bookshelf speakers from the Polk Monitor series at www.newegg.com http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...polk+series+II

or the Infinity Primus line at Crutchfield http://www.crutchfield.com/shopsearc...ty_primus.html

Polk Monitor 30 or 40 bookself units and a CS1 center - or - Infinity Primus P152 or P162 bookshelf and PC250 center would be world's better than the Onk's. You could still reuse a couple of the Onkyo units for the surrounds.
