quality small receiver/amp for bookshelfs?

595 Views 11 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  yoryocor
I move a lot, so am looking for a smaller, lighter, high quality receiver or (not an amp, didnt realize that needs a preamp too!) to drive a pair of boston vs240 or a25 or similar bookshelf speakers.

I liked my former yamaha a lot, with its natural sound.

Anything out there with enough oomph and great sound?

It will be run with a PC with hdmi or optical spdif as output options.

Thanks!

What is the rms/peak of your speakers?
No idea, figures I just posted can't be correct.
vs 240 are 10-100 watts

a 25 10-150 watts

^^ per B A website speaker specs

I'm sure someone will have some info on an amp or receiver for you, it just makes it easier if they know the limits of the speakers you are going to be driving.
Thought those were the recommended receiver wattages. Same thing?

So you need a receiver with HDMI and optical inputs? What's your definition of "smaller". Most AVR receivers are 17" wide but a few models are shorter than others at less than 5" tall.

The Harman Kardon AVR 1510 is less than 5" tall and on sale for $199. Sale ends today.

That would be tolerable, as weight is low. Smaller would be sweet too, but I will read up on that one.

HK is considered pretty good stuff, no?

Gonna miss the sale, I am in europe.
Since you have time look at the Marantz slimline models too....
Those last two are 17 pounders. Weight factors more than dimensions...them's too fat!

Seems like the H/K1510 is going to be about as light as they get. Should be hard to find something lighter than 10 lbs. Afrogt seems to have found your next avr. H/k makes good AVR's. There's a dedicated thread for their models somewhere on this site.
Ja, the HK is great, gonna snap one up!

Thanks for the clue!
