I'm on the run, so I'll have to make this short and elaborate further later on. At the Qualia showing at HEE in NYC earlier today, the rep running the demo was asked whether SXRD would be released in an rptv later this year. He stated that he was unaware of any rptv plans yet, BUT that Sony would be releasing two (count em', two) lower priced SXRD fps before the end of this year. Now we all know that info of this nature is always deemed a little suspect, but he was quite emphatic about this. I'll post later tonight with more info on this and on the blu-ray release.

I’ll just finish up on the Quantia here (thought there might be a ‘few’ people looking forward to this news of a less expensive SXRD), and put the rest of my reports in the HEE thread. No information from the rep as to what we might lose on the Quantia, but hinted it was likely that at least the first of the two would appear at CEDIA.

And someone else was told: No cheaper FP, but yes to an RPTV.

So thanks for the report, seriously, but I'm going to wait until CEDIA before I feel like I have even a clue. :)

Would Sony develop sxrd to sell 100 Qualia 004s?

They must sell more units, rptv:mad:

If two fps are coming then one must be 1080p and the other 720p.

I suspect you will see a 1080p basic engine for the HS20 replacement at $3,000 and the $5,000 RPTV market. I also believe they will also introduce a $ 8,000 to $10,000 model in their ES line as a single chip DLP competitor.

FWIW the many Sony reps I asked all had different answers, but none of them were that we'd see more PJs any time soon (other than the QUalia of course). That said, I found that in general these folks were surprisingly uneducated about their own products so...

720p sxrd might be a hs-20 replacement

1080p sxrd will battle it out with high end dlps

I woild be very surprised if Sony does a 720P SXRD. Their 2 page magazine spreads that they have been running since the beginning of this year touts "full-HD". That is a slogan that they will market against the DLP RPTV.

They have been very consistent in promoting SXRD as 1080p and above technology

I got the no RPTV line too, but there were two "generations" of technologies forthcoming.

Tim,

What day were you there, and was it AM or PM? Betting it was the same guy for both of us.

Now all of this talk is very interesting; but, shouldn't the conversation of SXRD be directed more towards whether or not enough yield would allow them to make a run into the RPTV market or a more budget line FP?

Sorry if I'm being pessimistic; but, LCoS chips aren't exactly falling out of the sky. :(

My guess is that we won't see budget LCoS until the yield justifies a non-premium price they currently are getting away with.
