Hello All,
I am looking to purchase a pair of tower speakers on a limited budge.
Details:
I am considering the following speakers, but I have not been able to find many reviews or customer input on some of them.
- Option 1: Cambridge Audio S70
They usually retail for $500/pair. I have heard good things about their S30 bookshelf which I have also heard them myself. I liked the S30 sound, but I felt I needed something bigger to fill my room so I thought the S70 would do the trick. Some S70 owners have commented that they have heard them "resonate" with more bass loaded tracks. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a local dealer to audition them.
- Option 2: Mordaunt-Short Carnival 8
I have seen even less reviews of this speaker, but Mordaunt has the same parent company as Cambridge Audio. The Carnival 8 seems to be the Mordaunt counter part to the S70, but with a heavier cabinet and bigger woofers. On paper, they are about the same so I assume they will have a similar sound. Perhaps these slightly heavier cabinet eliminate the resonance problem some S70 owners have complained about?
- Option 3: ARX A3
I have read good things about this speaker in the Owner's Thread, but it is usually dead around there. However, they seem to have satisfied customers.
- Option 4: EMP Tek E5Ti
Quite a bit of glowing reviews found here and Auidoholics award. However, my main concern is driving these speakers since they are less sensitive at 87dB and 6 ohms. Any thoughts if this will be a major con? I am not planning on adding an amp to my setup.
- Option 5: KEF iQ70
I have read not so great reviews on these speakers, but people keep recommending them. It seems that they need a proper break in before they can be judged properly. I will have to go to my local Fry's to take a listen.

If any one that has compared these speakers or have some input, please comment. Any other suggestions are welcomed.
I am considering purchasing only the the fronts and their matching center speaker so there will be no sub for a month or two. I will be saving up for a good sub at a later date.
Thanks!
