Question About Adelphia/Comcast

846 Views 15 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  mjones73
I am gonna order an HD cable box with the DVR. My friends keep tellin me that their cable boxes did not have an HDMI port on the back of it and they had to use DVI and component? Is it hard to get a cable box with an HDMI port? Also do they provide the HDMI cable?

Depending on what brand DVR your cable company uses, you could end up with either. You can simply use a DVI to HDMI cable if needed and no, the cable company won't supply it. You can pick up DVI, HDMI, or DVI to HDMI cables cheap at monoprice.com

Thank you for the link. Is a big help!
Im picking up my box today. If it is HDMI, would this be the cable I need? http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...ormat=2&style=
That would work fine if you need a 10 foot long cable.

The 3 foot and 6 foot cables are sold out.

Why are these cables so cheap compared to the ones and Circuit City and Best Buy?

Let's try that question again. Why do BestBuy and Circuit City charge so much for cables that are no better than the ones sold at monoprice?

Cause they can get away with marking up the price on them?

Bingo! :)

I have been using monoprice cables for a couple of years now and they are excellent. They are OEM cables - DVI>DVI and DVI>HDMI - with OPPO DVD players.

I got the Scientific Atlanta 8300HD and it came with component cables. Is there any benefit to getting HDMI cables since my tv can only do 720p and 1080i?

The advantage of HDMI is that it delivers a digital signal to your HD TV set. Component cables deliver an analog signal which then has to be converted to digital. The HDMI connection means one less conversion step. Many viewers think that the HDMI connection produces a slightly sharper picture. YMMV.

Go to http://www.bestbuysux.org/index1.html and you will find out. And, no they never give out a HDMI $100 interconnect. DIRECTV receivers have HDMI out!

In most cases if the set is CRT based, you probably wouldn't see a difference, with a digital display you may or may not see an improvement. You can pick up a cable pretty cheap, it's worth comparing the two for yourself and go with what looks best to you. Keep in mind you need to calibrate both inputs seperately when comparing.
I just plugged in my HDMI cable and im getting the guide from my cable box and I can see the channels changing but there is no video or audio. What did I do?

EDIT: I get picture from my recorded stuff. Im gonna try to restart the box.

I, too, am questioning this (although I won't have DVR  ) since they will install one tomorrow. Based on the TWC site, the best connection they provide is DVI. However, the CS rep informed me that I am still under Adelphia equipment, so it will be different . Thus, I asked him to note that I would like to request a box with DVI. Will they provide a DVI cable or am I dreaming? For you current Adelphia/TWC HD subs, do they have HDMIHDMI HD boxes?
"Will they provide a DVI cable or am I dreaming?"

You're dreaming. Check monoprice.com for a cable if you'd like to try the connection out.
