When we get an azimuth direction for our zip code, is the direction given relative to true north or magnetic north? I know this is kind of a silly question, but my line of sight is almost blocked by a roof, and the few degrees difference will be the difference in whether or not I buy a dish.

thanks

Use true north. The Dish Pointing section at DBSforums has the azimuth, elevation and magnetic north correction.

It depends on where you're getting the information from. Some sources report the azimuth in true north, others report in magnetic. What are source of yuo using?

You have a right to install OTA and dish antennas on property under your control.

The dishnetwork program shows magnetic azimuth. You can get the magnetic deviation maps on the net. You need to add or subtract the deviation (Based on whether you are on the east or west)to get the real azimuth.

I believe the DirecTV setup screen is corrected so that the magnetic compass indication is what is indicated.
