Hopeful someone can help me with this (hint hint Mr. Brubaker). I'm looking into buying a DaLite screen but have two problems.


1) I'm going to have to use a wall that has a doorway. Just the opening but without the molding. So could I get a DaSnap or similar wall mount screen and have a portion of one corner not attached to the wall? Meaning the lower left corner would not have any wall behind the border. Possible or should I just settle for a pull down screen?


2) I'm renting the house so which type of screen would give me the best performance without leaving permanant scars on the walls?

I personally have 3 different Da-lite screen; High contrast da-mate da-snap with a black frame 16.9, a pull down mate white and a tripod.I think you should use the pull down it takes only a couple screws, witch later you can spackle the holes.

I agree with Angeli662, as much as I do not like to see people put pull down screens in their homes, I think you have no other choice. You see any fixed frame screen has to have tension on all four sides of the fabric and I feel that removing either snaps or velcro will wear out the fabric prematurely. I just don't see much of an alternative. Good Luck !

Thanks Angeli662 and Mr. Brubaker. SO even if I don't use the doorway, there is no way that I can maintain tension without a corner? Bummer. I was hoping for a motorized drop screen but the dimensions of the housing were too big. Looks like I'm going to have to settle for a pull down, for now.

Maybe I don't understand the question. Da-lite fixed screens come with a frame that the screen material attaches to, then you attach the screen fram to the wall. So if you are not going to used the doorway you could still attach the screen to the wall. I'm not a fan of pull down screens as all the non-tension ones have waves in them.

Sorry if I didn't word things clearly. But seems like you get the picture. I won't be using the doorway but I can't "fill" it and turn it into a wall. So if I bought a fixed frame my question was would it be okay to have the frame attached to the wall everywhere except where the doorway is (probably the whole right side lower corner of the frame would not be backed by a wall). So could a fixed frame still be useable with only 3 sides of the frame attached to the wall?


I agree with the waves in a pull down. But it might be my only temporary solution.

I think it would be ok as long as you don't have any light coming in from the door way. (from behind the screen). You might want to check with someone that has a fixed frame screen to make sure the frame is strong enough not to bow out if it is only attached to the wall in a couple spots.


I hated the waves so much in my model B screen, I took it out of the roll up case and built a wood frame. I stapled it to the wood frame and hung it on the wall using picture frame type brackets. It looks much better now http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif .

The screen frame will be more the strong enough. These things are very light wieght. And the frame is built so the screen is tight even if you just leaned the frame up against the wall.

Thats is right I have a fixed frame HC da-mat and the frame is very strong made of aluminum witch comes in four peaces them you snap the fabric from behind creating a very strong, wave free and extrimely light witch can be hang withy a couple of good picture hangers or the two brakets the comes with it.
