I have directv and I get my local channels. all my HD gear is arriving tomorrow. My question is is the CBS feed from directv sent in HD or will I need to add another ant to pick up local CBSHD?

same goes for pbs,abc and whatever else is considered part of directv's "local" package. I am trying my best to keep the trips up to the roof as minimal as possible.

The local feeds from directv are standard def. The HDs take up too much information 'space' you'll have to get your HD other than HBO and HDnet from an antenna. They have a CBS national feed but you have to get a waiver from your local affiliate (not much hope) to be allowed to see CBS programming without the affiliate's advertising.

TerryB,

The CBS national HD feed is on Dish Network, not DirecTV.

Sorry.
