Question about Dish 811 HD receiver

400 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  bilboda
I just upgrade my 6000 to Dish 811. Here is what I experienced, just wondering if anyone here has the same experience:

The HD output is excellent as far as the picture quality and details, but the SD out put is poor, especially in terms of contrast and color. I have to bring up more in brightness and contrast setting and reduce the color setting, but still the picture quality is lesser than on 6000. Off air reception sensitivity seems lower, it has difficult to lock on stations that was no problem with old 6000.

I was wondering if it is the unit problem, but I have two 811s and seems very simular in pictire qualities.

Thanks to all in advance for any comment.

hmm..I have one, and think the PQ is better than with directv on my FP...my wife actually said it before me:) To some extent, it may be the FP (infocus 7200) and DVI crutching it along:)

There's a known problem with the 811 having a dark picture which is supposed to be fixed in a new software release. I think I've seen posts on some dbs web sites about 811's not locking in OTA stations as well as 6000's but have no personal experience. Overall, the new Dish receivers appear to be fairly buggy. That's unfortunately normal for Dish. They eventually get the bugs worked out and have some nice equipment, but the early adopters of Dish equipment tend to become beta testers.

Sometimes my HD is too dark as well. This isn't always the case with SD or HD but whne it's not too dark it's really nice. We'll see about software updates. I had a D* and there were some video adjustment settings. I'd like to see some in the 811 My projector's settings aren't enough sometimes. It gets really dark around here sometimes.
