Will HD-10L lenses, when used within their design parameters, perform as well as HD-10GT17 that are used within their design parameters?

Yes they should be equally good at their designed throw. Even if you exceed the throw a little, it's the edges that will suffer, not the center.

I'll be almost dead center of the HD-10L design size, so It should be fine.
