If you strip to the proper length ( 1/2" jacket and less than 1/8" insulation, you shouldn't have to shrink the solder joints inside the connector. Of course, shrink is pretty.

Question about installing Neutrik XLRs
Hi,
it would be great if anyone could give me some advice,
a friend of mine asked me to do him a favor and build him some extra long custom xlrs,
Ive never made them before and not familiar with the neutriks xlr..
I wondering if we are supposed to heat shrink the terminals after soldering? or does the strain relief nagate the use of heat shrink and act as a short circuit prevention at the same time, Thanks for your time!
