Yes, you certainly can. You just go to the I-# that the JVC assigns to that device an it comes through fine.

Question about JVC DVHS recorders
I did a search but couldn't find a quick answer to this:
If you feed the JVC unit with an HD signal to its firewire input, can you watch it though the component outputs without acutally recording it?

Yes, just tune the DVHS to the I Link input and it will decode.
