So is it true that with Logic 7 processing of 5.1 sources like DTS and Dolby Digital the AVR 8000 will first downconvert it to 2.0 and then extract that to 7 channels?

Kinda a bummer if true...

Do the Lexicon processors do this?

Yes this is what happens on the AVR8000, as it only has implemented the 2-channel version of Logic 7. However, applying Logic 7 to 5.1 sources was never part of this product's advertised feature set. This was only discovered and promulgated with incorrect assumptions in online forums.

No, Lexicon processors have a separate 5.1-version of Logic 7 that they apply directly to those sources without downconversion.

Yes.

Listen first before judging. Many AVR-8000 owners thought there were listening to discrete channels, until the process was clarified. It's more convincing than you might think.

Nope. The 5.1 LOGIC7 modes on Lex processors only work on the surround channels, steering the content between side and rear speakers.

Best,
