Okay i am currently shooting an image on my light tan wall i want to make a screen i assume it would be a better image now on the wall i get a ton of light spill on the ceiling etc... if i make a screen and paint it the silverscreen color and use like a 3 inch black border will i still get that light spill if so how will i stop it i love the pics i see on here when all you see is the light of the image not anywhere else thanx
Unless your adjacent walls/ceiling are a darker color, your still going to get light reflections. I painted my back wall black, and my side walls/ceiling a dark blue color. The screen now appears to be floating in space.
IT sounds like you are getting light spill all right but as well you are just simply getting light reflections in the room .
1 times suggestions might help, but no matter what you slap on as a screen paint, the only way to really treat this is your rooms walls and ceilings.
Painting flat dark colours is one step , if the room is dedicated theater room wall treatments like felt take it a step further both for sound and pic wise .
Have to agree with all painting the room a dark color is the best, adding dark carpet, dark curtains ect............ it will get better, just how far are you willing with go with paint and construction. The idea of a box from {1time} is a good one, I built a wall pocket for my screen and it HAS a MAJOR impact on reflected light,to and from the screen. I have a white ceiling (wifes choice) and my screen is Bright White. The wall pocket is 8†on the sides and 20†on the bulkhead above and Below on the stage. The construction shot shows the pocket better.
It was easy to due since I was doing a remodel anyway, its just studs and drywall but if your not into construction paint will help a lot.
Next time I will make the pocket larger and use curtains on the sides and top to trap the light before it gets back into my room (maybe curtians will help you)but being this was the first HT I have built, I made a few mistakes. I can live with it though!!!!!!!

LOL thanks biglyle for pointing that out, it reminds me that my wife DROPPED my digital camera and has shattered some of the glass in the elements. A small piece of glass is stuck in the center of the lens, I have to hit the camera to shake all the shards down to the bottom before I take pictures and that one little friggenfracken#@$!%^$!$!##@ piece just hangs their in the middle of the lens.
