Question about Panamorph and 16:9

278 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  johnny_marin
I have an Nec 260k and am considering purchasing a panamorph. Does the panamorph work with 16:9 material? Half of my viewing is HDTV and I need to know if a panamorph will work with it or is it just for anmorphic DVD's?

Thanks,

Jason

Unless you have a method of stretching the 16x9 image so that the panamorph will compress it back to the correct ratio, you move it out of the way.

If the material is 16:9 and I set the projector to 4:3 it stretches the image vertically. Would this work?
If you have a 4:3 projector, then it is fine. I should have made that caveat. If your projectoris 16x9 native then it's a problem.

That will work beautifully. Without the Panamorph you see tall, skinny people. Put the Panamorph in front of the lens and the picture is back to normal except it looks alot smoother (smaller pixels) and a bit brighter (although you don't need that with the 260K). Since the 260K has a long throw lens this also helps in reducing or eliminating any edge distortion (bowing, barrel distortion).
