It's because the 814 does not do video conversion. Composite in can only do composite out.

Question about Pioneer Receiver
I have a VSX-814S Pioneer Receiver, and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on a problem I am dealing with:
When i connect component cables to the 'monitor out' plug, and plug composite cables into an input, no picture is displayed, only sound. The same thing happens when i use a composite cable for 'monitor out', the component cables used in an input will not display a picture. Is this because the receiver does not have 'video conversion' (whether this is the case or not), or is there some way to enable it?
