We have a

Yamaha RX-A1010 (we use both the main zone and zone 2 Has IR IP and RS232 interfaces

LG 47LW5600 HDTV Has IR IP and RS232 interfaces

Motorola DCT3416 I HD cable box Has IR interface

Panasonic BDT-220 Blu Ray Has IR and IP interface

We're looking to tie our new system together and like the Roomie approach.

Is there an advantage for the tuner in particular to use the RS232 interface over the IP?

and what interface combo would you recommend for our setup IP & IR? or RS232, IP & IR?

Any suggestions?

Thank you

I use Roomie and think it's great. I have an Onkyp rather than Yamaha receiver, but can't see any reason to buy an IP2SL if your receiver has IP support. Judging from the compatibility list on Roomie's website the functionality should be similar with either. I would go with ip for everything that does it and IR for anything that's IR only. You may also want to use IR to power on devices.

I use a Roomie Remote and iTach WiFi2IR to control all my gear. I have a Yamaha RX-A710 receiver and I use the Ethernet cable connection to my router for its communication instead of the iR because I can get far more specific about commands this way ( for example; Power On vs Power Toggle)...

Works awesome...!!!
