Turned on my tv one afternoon last week, and the satellite receiver came on, as well as the tv.......sound, but no picture.......just a black screen. Thought it was just the channel having problems, but I changed channels, and still no picture, I couldn't bring up the tv menu either, so I knew it was with the tv.Turned the tv off, waited for the fan to go off, and turned it back on, and got a picture. Hasn't happened again since. Is that an indication of the bulb or ballast on it's way out, or could it be something else? Om that note, what is the average life of the ballast, and what are signs of it going, if this isn't one of them? Thanks in advance!

Do the led lights on the front indicate any problem as discussed in your user manual?

Have you tried using a different source and switching to it with the source button?

It could just be a cable problem between the units What interface are you using?

You said you changed channels not that you changed input sources.

What other input source did you try or have connected besides component?

Not surprising that you could sound over component and no video since the sound cables are separrate from the video cables.

Does anything get displayed when you use the source button on the TV remote?

I tried HDMI, but then just tried to pull up the tv menu, and no luck. I may have to do a more thorough test next time it happens, if it does. I was mainly curious if that seemed like the characteristic of a ballast on the way out, as I will be in the tv replacing the bulb soon.

Next time it happens check the LED lights on the front of the unit they will tell you if it is the bulb or not.

Are you still on your origional bulb?

The origional bulb on my HL-P4663 lasted 2 and a half years and shortly before it would not always start and the brightness level had to be incrased using the picture settings.
