OK ... still new to all of this.
I have recently purchased these four items:
1. Hitachi 57F510 (outstanding RPTV)
2. Denon 2200s (got the last one at a Tweeters for $248!)
3. Kenwood VR-8070s (a great purchase, $300 @ Costco)
4. Harman Kardon HKTS 14 SS speaker set from Vann's
Now I have it all together, setup in the basement family room.
We are really lovin' it.
This week, I purchased an SPL meter from RS, and used instructions found on the Denon web site FAQ.
My question is regarding using test tones for the setup.
The Denon has it's own test tones and setup, as well as the Kenwood.
Which do I use for the SPL setup? When I did my first SPL setup, I left the Denon set to factory default (all 0db). Then adjusted the Kenny to the meter. BTW, very little adjustment was required. Right now it sounds great.
I just want to know if I followed correct procedure. Also, I have the DVE disk, and haven't gone into audio setup there yet. As this was the my first attempt at this, I thought I'd just try the basics first.
Another thing. I have had no problems with the 8070. My surrounds all read pretty close to 75db from the start, very little adjustment at all.
Note that I am running a 5.1 setup, not the 7.1 that is possible. I feel this is a fantastic receiver for $300. Auto detection works great, and it matches well with the HK's. As far as complaints about the manual, I don't think it as lacking as some people have said. But, you do have to read it all, including the footnotes, to understand it better. If I had wrote it, I would have organized it differently, for a better flow of information.
Last night we watched the new version of "Fifth Element", and what a great surround sound audio track it has. We were amazed at how great everything sounded.
I highly recommend any of the above 4 items, particuarly for the newbie, low to midrange people that are in my circle of friends. ;-)
Thanks for any input you can give me on the test tones, and for all the great stuff I've learned from viewing this forum.
Cheers,
Garry
