I'm considering getting the Cambridge Audio 540R receiver, but I have a question as to how the tape monitor function works in conjunction with DD/DTS. I know the tape-out will either have no signal or a downmixed 2 channel signal, but my question pertains to how the tape-in will work. Here is what I'm looking to do:
I'm using a pair of older KEF reference speakers that need a room equalizer/crossover (KEF KUBE) inserted in a tape loop or between the preamp and amp. I'm thinking that if I run the 540R's L/R preamp outs to the KUBE, and then run the output of the KUBE to the tape-in, I can use the tape monitor to engage the KUBE even when playing DD/DTS sources. Of course, if the monitor feature only works in direct stereo mode, this isn't going to work.
Can anybody confirm for me that the monitor will work with a DD/DTS source selected? In other words, the input at the tape-in will be sent to the L/R speakers and the remaining speakers will still get a signal as well. Thanks in advance.
As a side note, I do have a separate Parasound amp, so I can integrate the KUBE that way, but if I find the CA has sufficient power, I may decide to sell the Parasound. I just want to know if I have that option.
