I'm using a sat/ant combiner combo for my DTV dish & outdoor antenna pointed towards Baltimore. I can only have one wire penetrate the wall. Can I use a mast mounted preamp with the preamp at the antenna location? In other words, any problems sending the voltage thru the combiner combo to power the preamp? I'm currently using it indoors, after the splitter, and I'd like a little more gain (who wouldn't?) but don't want to fry anything.

TIA...

You can't send the DC power to the preamp through a conventional diplexer. I believe there is an aftermarket product that does this, but the standard model won't work, DC to the "VHF/UHF" port is blocked.

Thank you sir. I knew there was a reason I couldn't do it. The standard dixplexor won't pass DC voltage to the preamp. I'll live with what I've got. Thanks again.

Signal Strength (DTC 100,indoor SS ant, Winegard AP4800 amp)

Wash DC:

ch 27=56

ch 34=85

ch 36=82

ch 39=88

ch 48=82

Baltimore (RS 40" UHF outdoor ant, CM7777 amp):

ch 38=82

ch 46=48

ch 52=82

ch 59=70

Hey Wayne,

What's the deal? Your getting 9 DTV stations from 2 different cities with an indoor antenna? Some people just live right, I guess.

Hey Ken, actually I get all DC stations with an indoor SS, but Baltimore stations need an small 40" UHF outdoor antenna. I just live in a lucky area, I guess.

Because it has absolutely nothing to do with living right, my friend. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif

Hi Wayne!

You most certainly can preamp your set-up.You just need the right pieces.Your Sat receiver will supply the voltage for the pre-amp.I've done this and it works great! Check out this website under preamps.
